Library and Documentation Centre

The WHO Regional Office for Africa (AFRO) Health Sciences Library and Documentation Centre collects, organizes and disseminates medical and health-related literature to respond to the information requests of the Regional office and field staff, other United Nations institutions and international organizations, as well as researchers from Member States of the WHO African Region.  

Products and Services

 

The Reference Desk and the Multimedia Centre provide orientation to the collections, information about how to use the Library and its information resources. Internet is available for visitors. The Library is open from Monday to Friday, from 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM. Two databases are managed by the Library: AFROLIB and AIM. Infodigest (awareness bulletin) is published monthly to share information with the users Access all Infodigest bulletins.   Access all Infodigest bulletins.Internal users and visitors have access to GIFT from the library.

The HINARI program, set up by WHO together with major publishers, enables developing countries to gain access to one of the world's largest collections of biomedical and health literature.  More

 

BLUE TRUNK LIBRARY

The Blue Trunk Library has been developed by the library of the World Health Organization for installation in district health centres in Africa as a means of compensating for the lack of up-to-date medical and health information.  More

AFROLIB

Afrolib is the World Health Organization Regional Office for Africa (AFRO) library database on the Web. It indexes WHO/AFRO technical documents, monographs and some African medical articles.

Afrolib provides full text access to most of these publications.

AIM

In order to give access to information published in or related to Africa and to encourage local publishing, the World Health Organization, in collaboration with the Association for Health Information and Libraries in Africa (AHILA), has produced an international index to African health literature and information sources.

WHO-HQ Library Database

WHOLIS is the World Health Organization library database available on the web. WHOLIS indexes all WHO publications from 1948 onwards and articles from WHO-produced journals and technical documents from 1985 to the present. An on-site card catalogue provides access to the pre-1986 technical documents
